Chad J. Kotz is an Appalachian photographer from southwestern Virginia currently based in Richmond, Virginia.

As of June 2017 he is working on a documentary photography project in Virginia. He is also slated to work as a director of photography for a short film, as well as continuing to do set stills for motion pictures.

From 2005 to 2016 Chad worked on the East Coast in documentary and television as a camera operator, editor, and whatever the independent film and video industry threw at him. His credits include feature-length documentaries, a nationally broadcast television show, a revival of a 1970s TV show in direct-distribution, commercials, and fiction shorts. At the beginning of 2016 he moved to California to work as a set stills photographer for a friend's thesis film. His photos were immediately noticed by other students at AFI and, as a result, he spent the next 18 months as a unit stills photographer in Los Angeles.
